ACTIVE REHAB

Active Rehab Instruction

We hear people say, “I hope this adjustment sticks!”  What do they mean?  Many seek a spinal alignment hoping they won’t feel like it “went out” again soon. Although this is not truly what happens (something doesn’t literally go in and then go out again) it just feels that way. What does happen is that spinal alignments work hand in hand with strong and conditioned supportive muscles and connective tissue – to hold your posture and joints in the correct positions to reduce injury and pain.

As a chiropractor, Dr. Hall can provide the spinal correction, but it is up to the patient to work on their strength and conditioning of these tissues for lasting function and injury prevention. Dr. Hall is a big proponent of having a program you can do at home with stretches and exercises to help your problem area.

These isometric/isotonic exercises aren’t hard, don’t require a gym membership, and can easily become part of your daily wellness routine. In fact they are so easy many people discount their effectiveness, avoid, or forget to do them. We suggest pairing your exercises with another activity you do daily to form good habits.

Body Imbalances

We cannot address and correct every imbalance in your body with one chiropractic adjustment visit.  Nearly everyone has some degree of imbalance in their body. These occur when one part of the body is overworked to compensate for another part’s weakness. For example, you may walk more heavily on one leg than the other or sit slightly twisted because it is more comfortable. Unfortunately, over time, these imbalances can lead to us developing injuries and experiencing chronic discomfort that could prompt us to seek chiropractic treatment.

Benefits of Doing Active Rehab on your own combined with Chiropractic Adjustments

Mitigates Pain – Many people are unhappy to be reliant on pain medications to mitigate their pain.  Studies have shown that corrective exercises combined with regular chiropractic adjustments can provide long term relief from many different types of pain.

Effective, Non-Invasive, Affordable – Chiropractic and Active Rehab at home is always worth trying first as a conservative and wholistic treatment, before more expensive or invasive treatment becomes necessary. Unlike medications, these active treatments help to remove the cause of your pain and take a more wholistic approach.

Faster Healing – Corrective exercises can bring the body back into alignment, which in turn increases blood flow and circulation, sending more oxygenated blood around the body. This promotes tissue healing, reduces swelling and inflammation, and helps to counteract pain.

Increased Strength and Flexibility – Isometric and isotonic stretches and exercises help to strengthen and tone the “foundation” of stability muscles around our spine, and joints – and not to build the large muscles.

Better Posture – Poor posture contributes to destabilization and deconditioning of the supportive muscles surrounding your spine and joints. Most of us are guilty of having poor posture at some time or another. Corrective exercises done regularly can improve your posture and help prevent chronic pain.

Injury Prevention – You can recover from injuries when you have a strong foundation of stability muscles. Another benefit of doing regular “conditioning” exercises for your joints is that it reduces the possibility injuries occurring in the future – especially as we age.

How it Works

This is a free service we offer to our clients currently in active care. This is not an exercise program to lose weight, or a work out program. These exercises will be specific to your condition.

We use a program called WebExercises to create a plan tailored to your needs. It is sent to you via email – and comes with detailed instructions for each exercises along with a video showing the proper way to execute each move. You can access this from your phone and do these at the gym or at home. Some exercises  may use a band, ball, or cables – but can be modified to fit your needs and capabilities.
