ARTHRITIS / OSTEOPOROSIS

ARTHRITIS:

Arthritis is the number one culprit of joint pain and stiffness in people over 65. The most commonly affected joints include the shoulders, hands, spine, hips, and knees.

Arthritis is a result of damage to joint cartilage from various factors such as injury, wear, being overweight, and disease. Arthritis can quickly affect quality of life with pain flares and loss of normal joint function. Taking control of your arthritis symptoms is possible with the right professional medical care.

While medication and surgery are the top treatment options in the U.S., there are also great conservative non-invasive options for managing arthritis, such as chiropractic care.

How Does Chiropractic Care Help with Arthritis?

While arthritis, either caused by wear (Osteoarthritis) or disease (Rheumatoid Arthritis), cannot be cured- there is a lot that can be done to manage symptoms and prevent unnecessary progression. Chiropractors can use joint manipulations, passive therapies, injections, and exercise and nutrition instruction to help treat the symptoms of arthritis.

Chiropractors are experts in promoting full body alignment and balance. Their focus is on promoting good spine alignment to allow proper nerve energy, and muscle balance for essential everyday functions. This can be very beneficial for arthritic joints, helping to remove any impingements and restrictions that may be causing body imbalances.  Keeping and improving range and motion and movement in the joints helps inhibit stiffness, pain, can keep you as active as possible, and help to reduce stiffness and pain.

What Benefits Can Chiropractic Care Bring?

There are great potential benefits that regular chiropractic treatment can offer. Below are just a few of them:

  • Functional Joint Range of Motion
  • Joint Pain Relief
  • Reduced Inflammation
  • Improved Nerve Function for Optimal Tissue Healing
  • Improved Biomechanics with Daily Activities
  • Prevent Progression of Symptoms

OSTEOPOROSIS

Osteoporosis affects men and women of all races. A healthy diet and weight-bearing exercise can help prevent bone loss or strengthen already weak bones. Although chiropractic treatments cannot cure osteoporosis, many people find chiropractic care, along with diet and exercise, a healthy way to manage their symptoms, and prevent progress of the disease.

According to the Mayo Clinic…

“Bone is living tissue that is constantly being broken down and replaced. Osteoporosis occurs when the creation of new bone doesn’t keep up with the loss of old bone. This can cause bones to become weak and brittle ; so brittle that a fall or even mild stresses such as bending over or coughing can cause a fracture.”

Modified chiropractic care may be performed with special care taken to avoid injury. The doctor may use manual manipulations, the activator tool, passive therapies, and instruction on diet, nutrition and lifestyle modifications to help patient with osteoporosis. Chiropractic treatments help to reduce inflammation, increase range of motion in joints, improve neuron firing, and improving strength of supportive muscles and connective tissues. As a cost effective option it’s worth a try.
