CHIROPRACTIC CARE

Dr. Hall is the only treating doctor and will administer all the chiropractic adjustments. He uses a variety of techniques suited to each patient and their condition, and provides care for infants, children, teens, adults and seniors.

His approach is holistic, preferring to examine and adjust all segments of the spine, as well as other joints like shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, ankles, fingers and toes as needed.  These adjustments to areas other than the spine are called extra-spinal manipulations.

What is Chiropractic Care?

Chiropractic is a drug-free, non-surgical science that focuses on the muskulo-skeletal system, particularly the spine. Our nervous system controls the function of virtually every cell, tissue, organ and system of our body.  It consists of your brain, spinal cord and all of the nerves in your body. Your spinal cord is covered by 24 moving vertebrae.  When these bones lose their normal motion or position, they can irritate the nervous system or fail to get vital information to the spinal cord and brain. Chiropractic therapy is the science of locating these areas of spinal malfunction and correcting them through a natural approach.

When the 24 bones that protect the spinal cord lose their normal position or motion, delicate nerve tissue can become choked or irritated. If a thorough examination reveals malfunctioning areas of the spine, chiropractic adjustments are recommended to help correct this condition. A chiropractic adjustment is the use of a specific force in  precise directions, applied to a joint that is fixated, “locked up” or not moving properly. Adjustments help return the bones to a more normal position or motion, relieving pain and improving health. The doctor uses his hands, or a specially designed instrument to deliver a brief and highly accurate thrust. After years of training, each doctor has mastered a variety of methods and become skilled in their delivery. Regardless of the technique used, each chiropractic adjustment is tailored to the patient’s age, size, and unique spinal problem. These adjustments are gentle, safe, and effective. Adjustments help normalize spinal function and avoid bone and soft tissue degeneration. When nervous system function improves in this way, the body can begin the natural healing process.

Each chiropractic manipulation positively affects the joints, the muscles, and the nervous system in four ways:

  1. Restores proper alignment and range of motion to the JOINTS
  2. Helps to break MUSCLE spasms and restore proper muscle tone- reducing inflammation
  3. Removes pressure on NERVES  which increases proper nervous and immune system function
  4. Removes pressure on NERVES  which increases proper nervous and immune system function

Chiropractic works by restoring proper movement and function of the spine and nervous system.  A loss of normal motion or position of these bones can irritate or impair the function of the nervous system. This can disrupt the transmission of controlling nerve impulses. With improved spinal function there is often improved nervous system function. Also proper movement and range of motion reduces pain and helps prevent injury.  Along with chiropractic manipulations Dr. Hall teaches stretches and exercises you can do on your own to maintain this healthy function.

A chiropractor holds a doctorate degree in chiropractic sciences. After receiving a Bachelor’s degree, it takes three to four more years at a professional school, and an clinical internship in order to obtain the D.C. degree.  Each state requires you pass the boards and be licensed. Chiropractic school follows the same curriculum requirements as medical school in the physical sciences, neurology, biochemistry, and anatomy. However the pharmacology courses are replaced with the study of chiropractic manipulation techniques, physical therapy, nutrition and holistic sciences.

Since a chiropractic adjustment is a specific force, applied in a specific direction, to a specific spinal joint, it is virtually impossible to adjust oneself. It is possible to turn or bend or twist in certain ways to create a “popping” sound, like the sound that sometimes accompanies a chiropractic adjustment. Unfortunately, this type of joint manipulation may feel better in the short term, yet is usually counterproductive, often making an already unstable area of the spine even more unstable. The best way to enjoy the healthful benefits of chiropractic is to receive adjustments from a Doctor of Chiropractic.

Since significant spinal trauma can occur at birth, many parents have their newborns checked for the Vertebral Subluxation Complex. Later, learning to walk, ride a bicycle and other childhood activities can cause spinal problems. While a bandage and some comforting words can help a skinned knee, the unseen damage to the child’s spine is the unique domain of a chiropractic doctor. Many childhood health complaints that are brushed off as “growing pains” can often be traced to the spine. Regular chiropractic checkups can identify these problems and help avoid many of the health complaints seen later in adults. Naturally, chiropractic adjusting procedures are modified to a child’s spine. Most parents report that their children enjoy their chiropractic adjustments and respond very quickly to their care.

More and more people are consulting chiropractic doctors, especially in their later years. With growing concerns about over-medication and the side effects of combining various prescription drugs, safe, natural chiropractic care is growing in popularity. Restoring better spinal function can help improve mobility, vitality, endurance and appetite. Many patients report improvement with arthritic symptoms and other chronic ailments often associated with the aging process. Chiropractic adjustments are a conservative and safe treatment for people of all ages.

Our goal at Bodyworks Chiropractic Center is to get you on the right track of health, restore normal function, and get rid of pain – FAST! Most uncomplicated cases get better in only a few treatments. Other spinal problems, may require ongoing care for recovery. These long-standing problems are often associated with muscle weakness, soft tissue damage and degenerative changes to the spine. Most patients find that periodic chiropractic checkups help keep them in tip-top shape. Those who are active, have stressful jobs or want to be their very best find that a schedule of preventive care is helpful in the maintenance of good health. Some patients seek chiropractic care only when their aches or pain becomes unbearable. While this style of “crisis management” is usually more costly and time-consuming, our office stands ready to help all patients regardless of their health goals. How long you decide to benefit from chiropractic care is always up to you.

Chiropractic has an excellent safety record. It is the result of a conservative approach to health that avoids invasive procedures or addictive drugs. A thorough case history and examination helps reveal areas of the spine that may be causing nervous system malfunction. This information will be used to determine the best course of care for each patient. Chiropractic care is a natural approach to better health that is proven safe and effective. The Manga Report, was a Canadian research study done by the Ontario Ministry of Health to examine the effectiveness of spinal manipulation for low back pain. The governmental panel of health experts found that spinal manipulation by chiropractors is more effective, less costly and often safer than medical treatments for low back pain. In 1994 the United States government put together a panel of medical doctors and other health professionals to review current research and develop federal guidelines for the Agency of Health Care Policy & Research. The study recommends treating acute low back problems with spinal manipulation by a trained professional. The British Medical Journal published two studies comparing chiropractic treatment vs. medical treatment for low back pain. The study showed that patients who were treated by the doctor of chiropractic improved faster, were much better at 6 months and remained better over a two year period.
